March 2022: The student applied for OPT.

June 2022: The student received the OPT EAD card.

    July 2022: The OPT starts.

December 2022: The student realized that the EAD card has a typo on the EAD card although the student filed OPT application properly and correctly.

December 2022: The student submitted the online Typographic Error submission form but did not send any documents to USCIS.

February 2023: The student did not hear back from USCIS regarding the online form but was able to get a hold off of a USCIS representative. The student was told that he/she must send the required documents to USCIS via mail because it has been more than 10 days since the student received the EAD with a typographic error.

*It is important for OPT/ STEM OPT students to double-check the name on the EAD card to catch any typographic errors made by USCIS. If the student finds the error within 10 days from the date that he/she receives the EAD card, the student can report the error by submitting the form. If not, The student needs to mail out all the required documents (go to the following post to learn more about the required documents: https://sevissavvy.com/wrong-opt-start-date-on-ead-en/).

**When STEM OPT-eligible students mail out their original EAD cards, it is important to make a copy in case the student needs to apply for STEM OPT and there are delays to receive the corrected EAD.

March 2, 2023: The student mails out all the required documents to correct the typographic error on the EAD card (The student did not have to pay for the new EAD card.)

March 16, 2023: The student could check the USCIS update on the case status that the “card is being produced.” The student also updated his/her mailing address and was able to confirm the new mailing address by calling USCIS.

To contact USCIS, the student tried to schedule an “Infopass” appointment (https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/kiosk). From there, the student had to provide the receipt # (Form I-797, receipt notice) and was told the student is not required to schedule an appointment. Then the student was connected to the USCIS representative.

March 27, 2023: Corrected EAD card was shipped to the student’s new mailing address.

April 11, 2023: The student received the EAD card with the correct spelling.
