- Book title: Global Pathways: Insights on Studying, Working, and Thriving Abroad
- Chapter title: From Burdens to Privileges: Assisting H-1B Applicants in Higher Education (pp. 5-9)
- Summary: Unlike faculty, international staff who need visa sponsorship are often seen as a burden as the visa processing takes time and money. Systemic difficulties in going through the H-1B application process, like meeting the prevailing wage requirements, can easily discourage the applicant from continuing the process.
From the interview with international staff who received the H-1B visa successfully, it was found that the biggest success factor was the supervisors who saw them as assets to the team.
The chapter also delves into how sponsoring staff members can benefit institutions financially as it could lower the staff turnover rate.
Must-read for international staff who need visa sponsorships as well as American higher education leaders who have supervisees from abroad. - Where to get: Click here to get an online copy ($4.99) or paperback ($9.99)
